Ted,

Thanks for your comment. And I know EXACTLY what you mean: I drive my family crazy with all my marketing chatter. In fact, one day I'm out for dinner and I notice my two daughters are lifting their glasses and taking a drink at the same time over and over again. It turns out that any time I said "marketing" or "Dan Kennedy" they would take a drink. I WAS THE DRINKING GAME for them!

Too funny!

Best,

Charlie Seymour Jr
http://PersonalSuccessMarketing.com

Hey Charlie...
Love this post and you are right on the money as usual! Another one that I think is doing a great job as a marketing machine is America's Got Talent...I really don't care for it much but I watch it with Tracy...

This very similar to a post I made on my blog too...3 Big Marketing Lessons from the RUSH Concert...Yes even when I'm out with Tracy watching my favorite band live on stage I can't get away from the marketing!
Thanks, TM... some great points made here.

And yes... as we both point out, American Idol is a great marketing machine and they seem to be doing most things right.

Hey, chat with you in a year and we'll see if either of us can remember names from THIS season. Carrie I remember, and she's done well. A couple others have done really well.

But the SHOW and it's marketing machine has done great.

Best,

It doesn't matter who wins or loses...Simon wins. He ends up managing the top 2 anyway. The competition between the final 2 is nothing more than Simon seeing how many potential 'customers' he may have for both of his artist's debut albums...to see whether or not they'll go platinum.

They're both going to hit it big, regardless of the outcome of the show.

American Idol is not a REAL competition. The people are just choosing WHO they'd buy from first, if they put out an album. It's the easiest way to market a new artist to potential customers by getting them involved in the "pre-launch" process.

Interesting, how A.I. takes product launching to an offline level (even though they go online, too).

Same concept like the 'gurus' use in their online launch. Get the potential customers INVOLVED in the pre-launch process, let them pick what they want in their final package (thru phone/text voting), and then LAUNCH the product (the winner's new CD).

We could learn a lot from American Idol, if we just compare what they do during their show, and AFTER their show...to what we do in our own respective product launches.
