Research And Its Limits
Do we know ourselves?
Do you do the same thing over and over when faced with similar circumstances? Do you brake for a yellow light one time and speed up and clip the red light another?
Do you eat lots of fruits and vegetables or do you gorge on fatty meals and comfort food?
Do you ever do anything that disappoints yourself, wish you hadn't said or done something, wish you could take back what you said?
Of course.
But research often bases its decisions on the idea that we'll do the SAME thing over and over again… and we don't.
And what do politics teach us? How many times have the polls said one thing but when the population is behind the closed polling booth and they vote a different way, how often have the outcomes been different from what people SAID they would do?
Often. Ask Jimmy Carter when he ran against Ronald Reagan for one prime example.
So when people TELL McDonald's or Pizza Hut or KFC one thing and then do another, we really shouldn't be surprised.
People make lousy guinea pigs… we just don't do the same thing we say we're going to do.
Remember that.
