Harry Beckwith relates a story that a New York consultant approached a business for an assignment, but the owner was unsure of the $1,250 a day fee.
Two weeks later the same consultant had changed jobs, was now working with a Big Six firm in New York, and he approached the same company's CEO. The CEO signed him up in an instant… at a $2,500 a day fee.
He had doubled his fee overnight by having a strong "brand" attached to him.
Mr. Beckwith tells us to "acquire, build, or align ourselves with a brand."
Can You Increase Your Own Fees By Branding?
There are lots of ways to brand yourself. Though I don't say it often, I have an MBA from The Wharton Graduate Division of the University of Pennsylvania (one of the top business schools at one of the top Ivy League Universities in the USA).
THAT brand didn't help my photography business. Nor the work I've done in theater. Nor much of my blogging. But sometimes I "pull it out" when telling people about my marketing, management, and business background.
Because that BRAND of Wharton is superior.
But I certainly am not the ONLY one with that 'stamp of approval' next to my name.
So I list articles that I have written in national publications. I show lots of material here on this website. I explain that my senior-level role in selling produced $247,368,657.97 in personal sales and more than $1 Billion through my marketing leadership skills.
All of a sudden, an image emerges.
This ain't no beginner!
What can YOU do to tell your story in such a way that people can feel YOUR brand or associate you with someone else's?
Creating A Joint Venture Can Help
A friend and I are chatting about creating a joint venture to assist Professionals with their marketing. He earned a doctor of psychology degree and I earned a masters in business. We're both really strong in marketing and marketing on the internet. We work well together and selling us as a team will reap benefits neither of us could get by ourselves.
So HIS brand rubs off on me and vice versa.
Do you see how that is done?
So… create whatever joint ventures you need to bring the strongest team together AND tell the story in a way that all of your mutual clients can see how much stronger you are as that team.
Then go raise your fees!
