The Seventh Key: Magic Words

We each have our list of magic words that propel us in life, business, our family… hey, everywhere.

Here is my list of those important words:

Thank You

It's amazing to me how many times people forget these two words – like forgetting to signal when they turn left or right in their car: they know they SHOULD do it, but sometimes they forget… and when they forget, they get out of the habit and eventually stop doing it.

A Thank You can go a long way: here's an example that touches my heart every time I think about it.

When my younger daughter, Liz, has been in the hospital (she inherited her dad's penchant for trips to the emergency room: kidney stones and appendicitis), she always thanks the nurses. After getting her temperature taken: Thank You. After a shot: Thank You. After giving blood: Thank You.

She's not thanking for the PAIN or the inconvenience… but for the personal care that will lead to her getting well.

It hurts me to see her in the hospital. I've had SIX kidney stones, an appendicitis, a gangrenous gallbladder so I know what the inside of an emergency room likes like. It pains me to see my daughter in the hospital.

But it warms my heart to hear her say Thank You so freely. Hey, she's a great young woman… and I love her very much.

Use it: it goes a LONG way!

You're Welcome

Wait… we have to thank people for thanking us? Isn't that really what You're Welcome is?

Sort of…

But it's more than that. At the heart of things, it shows people that you care. You did something for them that elicited a Thank You and now you are showing (again) that you care.

"Oh, it was nothing…" really puts down the person saying Thank You… as if to say "there's no reason to thank me." But hey: LET them be grateful for your help and then acknowledge them for saying Thank You.

If nothing else, you will encourage them to keep saying Thank You: and what a nicer world this will be!

It's Great To See You

Have you ever greeted a friend who gave you a bear hug and showed clearly how thrilled s/he was to see you?

THAT'S what It's Great To See You can do (verbally) if it comes from your heart. Just starting off you made it clear to the person you are speaking with that s/he really means something to you… and don't we all feel better knowing that we mean something to the person we're about to spend some time with (even if it's only a few minutes in a chat)?

I have a few friends who make me feel great every time I see them. They are warm, caring, listen to me, share their ideas, are slow to ask for my help because they spend so much time sharing in my ideas and thoughts.

When you start every conversation by showing you really care about the person you're meeting with, each conversation will go better than you could have imagined.

Try it…

What Can I Do To Help You

Have you ever heard the expression "we all listen to the same radio station in our minds… not matter WHERE we are in the world, we all listen to that same station: WIIFM (What's In It For Me)."

MOST people don't really care that you didn't sleep well, the toast was burned, or the guy in front of you cut you off today as you raced to work.

MOST people care about THEMSELVES… so turn that to your advantage and ask about THEM!

Working with clients I always say, "My job is to find out what YOU want and then help you to get it." I do NOT say, as many people say (whether they know it or not), "Here's what I have to sell and you should want to buy it."

Before every Dan Kennedy – Bill Glazer local chapter meeting (GKIC-Philly), I stop at a local pizza shop. I take some work but since it's known that I will be there, friends often stop before the meeting. Maybe it's just to chat… but maybe they are working on a project and want another set of eyes. Maybe they want to chat about a marketing campaign they've started. Maybe they are wondering what new business to get into and want a sounding board.

I remember one meeting when a friend, Dan, and I were chatting with another friend, Jay. Jay brought in a sales handout he planned to use the next day at a huge conference.

The material wasn't very well-written. It was hard to figure out what he wanted people to do. We had many suggestions that piqued Jay's interest.

Jay didn't make our GKIC-Philly meeting – he went home, edited his material, and had a successful conference.

So what did I get out of that?

I helped another human being who asked for it. I sharpened my own skills by seeing Jay's work. I shared camaraderie with Jay and Dan. And in many ways, I felt like I was the biggest winner there, though it was Jay's work that improved.

When you ASK what you can do to help someone and then you DO… life's pretty great!

I'm Great

Whoa, there… maybe this needs to be explained.

This is a response after someone asks, "Hey, Charlie: how are you?" This is NOT a statement that I am better than someone else.

Here again, people don't really want to learn about what went wrong in my day… they generally ask this question because they feel it's the polite thing to do.

But when I answer "I am GREAT" they seem to come up to my level of enthusiasm (and I'm nothing if not a very enthusiastic person).

People often want to know WHY things are great. And again I think that has less to do with ME and more to do with how THEY can be at a level of GREAT too.

People are looking to be led. Some have gone as far as to say that people are walking about with their umbilical cords in their hands looking for a place to plug in: yep… they really do miss the care their mommies gave them and they want someone to help them and protect them.

These Are Some Of Mine… What Are Yours?

So… what do YOU think? What words are special to YOU?

And now – leave me a comment here to tell me what YOU feel about this!

Best,

Fallacies of Marketing

In case after case, Harry Beckwith makes the point that companies really don't compete with each other.

And I agree – to a point.

There certainly were times when two of us were brought in to make presentations and only one of us got it. Were we competing or not?

Fallacies of Marketing

In case after case, Harry Beckwith makes the point that companies really don't compete with each other.

And I agree – to a point.

There certainly were times when two of us were brought in to make presentations and only one of us got it. Were we competing or not?

We Don't Compete Against Other Companies… Or Usually Shouldn't

I have friends who say they have no competitors, just joint venture partners who don't realize it yet.

Dan Kennedy and Bill Glazer, marketing partners in Glazer Kennedy Insiders Circle, always maintain that we should build an Iron Fence around our "herd" of clients and customers so that we don't have to WORRY about competing with others.

Those of us who know how to market OURSELVES along with what we do make it clear to prospects that we have no competition because "if you hire someone else, you won't get ME." Egotistical? Maybe.

But I know with my consulting business, when I sold investment real estate, in my photography business… people realize that one of the main things they get when they hire me is ME.

Build Your Own Unique Terms To Describe YOU And What You DO

The example I often tell my clients is: No one can have an "almost" Trinitron for their TV… only Sony. The term is theirs, the quality that goes along with it is theirs, the value of it is theirs.

You need to do the same thing.

Give your special services a name: The FastTrak Marketing System, WalkAbout Marketing System, The Never-Once-Weasle-Out-Of-It-Guarantee-Of-Service Guarantee…. and then make sure you remind your prospects to be sure to LOOK for that service if they ever speak to someone else.

Believe me, Sony will LOVE to have consumers asking LG or Panasonic "how good is your Trinitron?"

You Need Others To Recommend You – Never Bad Mouth Them

And remember: never bad mouth anyone – tomorrow they may need to recommend you to one of their clients and you want to be sure to leave the door open for that!

And forget the "dog-eat-dog" competition you hear about – what you're competing with most is what your prospects already think about you.

Be sure to get them thinking the way you want them to think so that in the end, they can hire YOU and not someone else.

Best,

Fallacies of Marketing

Fallacies of Marketing

We fall into traps – traps of looking around, seeing what everyone else is doing, assuming they are doing a good job, and then we copy what they are doing.

Dan Kennedy, one of my marketing gurus whom I follow closely, always says that we should look around at what others are doing and either find someone else to follow OR do the opposite.

The Majority Is Always Wrong!

One of the things I teach is that we should look across industry lines to find what works best and then use as much of that strategy and tactic as we can.

But it IS difficult to see so many heading North and then YOU decide to head South.

We keep thinking that birds of a feather flock together and while that's true, we need to Lead, not Follow.

Doctors and Hospitals Need New Thinking

In his book, The Invisible Touch, Harry Beckwith uses doctors and hospitals as a great example.

You have an early morning doctor's appointment and you arrive on time KNOWING that you will sit there for 30 minutes or more before a doctor will see you.

Personally, I always take work with me… even into the examining room. When the doctor finally comes in to see me, I put away my materials and focus on what ails me. And I ALWAYS have a written list with me – so that I remember what I want to tell the doctor (rather than get home and remember that in addition to my sore chest, my left wrist is hurting too!).

And I love to study "systems" and see how we can improve them, which is what I do for consulting clients.

Two Nurses Improved The Systems In Salt Lake

Looking at the problems of doctors and hospitals, nurses Diane Kelly and Joan Lelis saw better ways and enlisted the help of those who could help them at Latter Day Saints Hospital in Salt Lake City.

They added valet parking, offered warm blankets, improved schedules for patients and doctors, required that blood was drawn when first putting in an IV (to keep the patient from being "stuck" again for blood work), and allowed patients who could walk to walk (so they wouldn't have to wait for an orderly to be available to push them in a wheelchair when they were perfectly capable of walking.

These Changes Helped Patients – What Did They Do For The Hospital's Bottom Line?

Hiring valets and heating the blankets cost money, of course, so how did the hospital do financially?

At LDS Hospital, patients woke up feeling better after procedures, spent less time in the hospital, and freed up much-needed beds more quickly (increasing the hospital's peak capacity by more than 50%). Now MORE patients can be seen in the same amount of time and space.

What Marketing Lessons Can We Learn From This?

Every service industry can find ways to improve. Communicate with your clients and patients to find out what THEY want and find a way to give it to them.

Industry Best Practices (or standards) seldom are the best way to go. They are the least-common denominator way to proceed. Too many people are looking to see what others do and then copy them. You don't want to follow, you want to lead.

Look to OTHER industries, see what is going on there, and use the best of what they offer to help YOUR clients and patients.

Same is true for your marketing – break the molds, work on new ways to do things, and be sure to ask those you serve what THEY want.

They'll buy more from you when you give them what the want!

Best,

Dave Dee – Marketer Extraordinaire – Knows How To Attract Free Giveaway Bonus Gifts For You

I'm a marketer.

I have years of experience, hundreds of millions of dollars of personal sales and a billion dollars of product I've marketed, and an MBA on the wall. I belong to business groups where I take leadership and presentation positions, sharing my knowledge, and I study great marketers like Dan Kennedy, Bill Glazer, Gary Halbert, and so many more.

Yet I step back when I see other marketers who have their own huge success: I admire them, learn from them, and steal every idea I can (which most freely give away) and put them to work in my business.

Dave Dee is such a marketer.

I have purchased many of his products over the years. This magician turned marketer-to-magicians turned marketer-for-businesses understands clearly what he needs to do.

Yet I also admire him for the way he helps his kids, takes time out for them, and shares his love unabashedly. He's often blogging about his kids, sharing his intimate emotions.

Here's his most recent email to the tens of thousands of us on his list:

I just flew into Los Angeles to be with the love of my life and to have two days of meetings with Dave & Alexis Platinum coaching members.

Last night, back in Atlanta, I had a date with my daughter, Gina. She is an amazing ten year old girl. As we were munching on pizza, she brought up the subject of spirituality. She told me her thoughts about heaven, hell, God, good, evil and more. I was blown away.

Then we went to the supermarket to buy, as we say in the South, the "fixins" for ice cream sundaes. We also stopped
off at Blockbuster video to rent one of my favorite comedy movies, "Planes, Trains And Automobiles."

Back at my place, we sat on the coach, ate our sundaes and laughed together at the movie.

During the movie, Gina put her arm around me and said, "Daddy, I hope I remember how much fun we had together when
I am grown up."

Yep, I'm not ashamed to admit that tears welled up in my eyes. (Heck, sometimes when I just look at my kids, I get
misty.)

And it hit me that the real reason I chose the business I did is not about the dee-nero. It's not about not having to answer to the "man." It's not about doing something I love. Nope.

It's all about the lifestyle.

I am FREE to work when I want to. (Now, don't get me wrong, I work hard…but I don't have to have "office hours".)

I'm FREE to fly across the country every other week to be with Alexis. (Our relationship would not be possible if I
had a brick and mortar business.)

I'm FREE to take time off, whenever I want, to be with my kids and truly be 100% present with them.

The list goes on and on, but I think you get the point.

Tomorrow, I am going to be sending you the most important email I have sent you in a long time. It is about a free
call Alexis and I are doing on July 3rd.

If you have a business that you've been successful at but long for more freedom, then this call is not something you
can afford to miss.

Be on the lookout for my email tomorrow. Open it up and then register for the teleseminar.

You will thank me. I promise you that.

Kick butt, make mucho dee-nero!

Do you see THE MAN and not just the Marketer? Do you envy the freedom that we get when we market and sell what we want to? Would you like to learn more?

You can imagine how pleased I was when asked if I would contribute one of my marketing specialties to Dave's upcoming product release.

Dave is combining his efforts with Alexis Martin Neely, the former attorney turned marketer who had such huge success helping others do what she used to do (market her law firm) that she no longer had time to work as an attorney.

Now they are offering 5 Step Formula to Add 6 Figures to Your Business THIS YEAR & Re-Ignite Your Passion While You Do It and I'm giving you a big head start because I know that you understand marketing.

Read carefully what I'm about to tell you…

On July 3rd at NOON ET (9:00 AM PT), Dave and Alexis are conducting a live, FREE teleclasss during which they will share their 5-Step Formula to Add 6 Figures to Your Business THIS YEAR & Re-Ignite Your Passion While You Do It.

Registration for this exciting call does not officially open until Monday, but I got permission to let my friends and associates (and those who come to my blog) know before everyone else. Believe me, if it's like anything else these two have done, the registration will close very quickly.

Dave's magic is not just with a hat and a rabbit – his marketing ideas are terrific and once people learn about this call, all the phone lines will be gone (and that's why people need to register NOW).

I believe so much in these two that I have created an information product for them to GIVE AWAY FREE just so people will get TONS of bonuses to join this call. You'll see my photo on their information page where you'll learn about my information as well as information from MANY others.

I have used several of Dave's products and paid him for them and get referral fees when I help sell any of his: he's quick, sharp, insightful. And Alexis, who recently sold her law practice just to concentrate on her internet businesses (because she was earning over 7 figures), is a real winner.
You, Too, Can Learn How To Turn Your Words Into Gold When Following Simple Steps To Profit

“Do You Struggle When You Write? Does It Seem Easy For Others But Not For You? Have You Dreamed About Turning Your Words Into Cash?”

Are you tired of spending hours on your website and blog and getting nowhere?

Are you not building a relationship with people who might purchase something from you and they just pass you by?

Are you losing money, taking steps backwards, and not growing a business that you have spent hours creating – making you nervous that you might lose your whole business?

Who Else Wants To Turn Their Words Into Emotional Responses By Buyers?

People often asked me, "Charlie, how can I write better so that after all my hard work, I can actually SELL my products and services?"

Like those asking me this, do you struggle when it comes time to write? Does it seem easy for others but not for you? Do you fear the time when you'll have something to sell but then you'll blow it when it comes to putting words in front of prospects?

You're not alone.

Other than Public Speaking, one of the things that most small business people fear is writing.

Even a blog like this one is a chore (painful chore!) for some people.

Believe me, I'm not a born writer. I didn't get A's in all my English classes. I haven't always enjoyed it or done well with it.

But once I learned how to do it, the fear fell away and my success started to rise.

After all, I sold more than $247 MILLION in real estate and most of it started with direct-mail pieces I sent out… so I had to be doing SOMETHING correctly.

Here's Why I Do So Well Now!

Several years ago I LEARNED how to write for marketing pieces. I studied direct response marketing, Dan Kennedy, John Caples, Corey Rudl, and more. And now the list of those who have helped me is VERY extensive, including people like:

Dan Kennedy, Bill Glazer, Michael E. Gerber, Napoleon Hill,
Jay Abraham, Zig Ziglar, Corey Rudl, Don Crowther, John Reese,
Mark Victor Hansen, Gary Halbert, Tom Hopkins, Ken McCarthy,
Jeffrey Gitomer, Nido Quobein, Declan Dunn, Joe Sugarman,
Jay Conrad Levinson, Robert Ringer, TJ Rohleder, John Caples,
John Carlton, Dave Dee, John C. Maxwell, Brian Tracy,
Jim Edwards, Joe Vitale, Tom Antion, Mark Joyner,
Charles J. Lewis, Harry Beckwith, Robert Bly, Joe Girard,
Jeffrey J. Fox, Mike Stewart, Joan Stewart, Clate Mask,
Robert Collier, Bill Crosby, Brian Campbell, Howie Schwartz,
Andy Jenkins, Seth Godin, David Frees,
Brad Fallon, Frank Kern, Yanik Silver, Fred Gleeck, Derek Gehl,
and more

One-on-one, conferences and live courses, home-study courses, study by myself using their materials.

Each one imparted great information and understanding.

But YOU Don't Have Enough Time To Study
The Way I Studied, So What Can You Do?

How can you learn all of this without taking the years of hard work it took me to learn this?

I've done the work for you! I worked hard to create great information for you and packaged it neatly to make your life easy. So you won't have to study: no long evenings, no grad school, no trial and error as you figure things out.

Even if you decide that you don't need my materials, you should look at the "sales letter" which uses all the tips, tricks, and techniques that I share with you.

Even Old-Line Companies Are FINALLY Seeing The Value Of Social Marketing

OK… so they love to tease me. And I talk about marketing ALL the time.

One time, I even noticed that others at the table were each lifting their glass to drink at the same time. A bit odd until they did it over and over. And then I noticed that I was the drinking game – every time I said "marketing" or "Dan Kennedy," they took a drink.

So to have my two grown daughters (and my future son-in-law) teasing me at dinner wasn't odd… but they sure did overreact to what I had written.

We like to go out for dinner to celebrate, share time with each other, and welcome home a relative. This time it was Stacie's return from Boston (on her way to spend a few days in Washington, DC). So, we agreed to meet on a night when Liz and Chris weren't involved with The Sound of Music at Young People's Theatre Workshop (Liz helped direct and choreograph the production and Chris helps run the backstage area – and with EIGHTY kids in the show, the backstage NEEDS to be run!).

I sure took grief from them at dinner the other night. You'd think I had suggested PORNO by the way they reacted to one of my posts when I wrote on Facebook. We all cut short our posts to Twitter and our status on Facebook, but even acknowledging that, I don't see what is wrong with what I wrote.

Here's what I wrote before – see what you think:

Talking to 13 year old girls through Social Media http://bit.ly/8JCz6 3min video – more effective than regular tv ads

Proctor and Gamble is finding how powerful Social Marketing is for them when they present their feminine products through social networking and social marketing, and being a Social Marketing Expert and Consultant, I like to use real-life examples when I can. This stuff really works, and big-old-companies are finally coming around.

So that's why I published the Tweet to tell the thousands I have on my several accounts.

Like when Ford was just highlighted for changing people's minds about their hybrids… see the article here: http://bit.ly/s4hZh My comment is there in their growing list of comments and I suggest that people write to Jim Thomas who owns Springfield Ford in Springfield, PA 19064. Write him about the best deal you can get and tell him Charlie Seymour Jr sent you: Jim.Thomas@Springfieldemail.com

Or when I blog about all kinds of examples at http://bit.ly/24eYTO I spend a lot of time blogging, and people now know, like, and trust me and seek me out for advice.

Or in this P+G example when they aimed all their marketing at 13 year old girls to speak their language, talk about their issues, give them a voice in the Social Networking arena. They didn't push their products… they "pulled" the girls into discussions on topics the girls were having already and then let them discover the products that were right for each girl. And dollar for dollar their results are smashing records for them.

So I told my family (which teased me to no end over dinner about my post) that P&G is doing terrific work and I hoped they will watch the short video at http://bit.ly/8JCz6 which explains it fully.

Please see that video now. And then come back here to leave comment.

If I can help you, too, with your Social Marketing, let me know. And if I can help you Turbo Charge your work at home, let me know that too.

Best,
