Ultimate Dads Success Ezine 005
One of the things I do with my business life is to create beautiful photography, preserving life-changing moments for my clients.
Weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, Family Portraits, Theater. Large wall portraits on canvas, leather-bound albums, heirlooms of tomorrow created today.
So… what do I do now that my younger daughter has announced to us her engagement to Chris McBride?
She’s the love of my life. She follows in the theatrical footprints of my grandmother, great uncle, my Mom and Dad, and me (being the 5th generation of our family to direct and perform at one of the largest and best-equipped little theaters anywhere in the USA). And that's where she and Chris met! (Romantic, don't you think?) And they will be MARRIED in that theater! (Ooo, break out the handkerchiefs – the symbolism is really growing!)
How do I turn over the photography to someone else? What will be more remembered to her years from now when I am gone – beautiful images or that I played the role of the father of the bride.
Any thoughts? Let me know how YOU would handle this dilemma.
Charlie

To Understand Marketing, Understand SellingThis article pertains to those of us in businesses where the client visits us or where we go to their home. While not every example fits each of us, all examples can work if thought through and properly applied: What do YOU think selling is? Who is a salesperson? Is a mother, father, priest, rabbi, politician, teacher, convenience-store clerk, restaurant waiter selling anything? Do you think “selling” is something bad, something negative, something you wouldn’t want your child to grow up doing? Here’s my definition of selling: To find out what YOU want and help you get it. And then get you and those you recommend to do it over and over again. Period. And with THAT definition, it can apply to everyone. The lawyer in her suite of offices, the electrician making a house call, the retail shop owner when people stop by, and the computer expert clearing the bugs away. Selling is NOT forcing someone into a corner to buy, NOT holding a gun to his head, NOT limiting alternatives. But that doesn’t mean we can’t show our products and services in their best light, using proper words and methods to highlight why our clients and customers might want to take advantage of what we have. Everyone likes to OWN and most of us like to BUY, but none of us likes to be SOLD. “Well, I sold your friend Mrs. Smith this same book last week.” “Oh yeh?” your client thinks, “you’re not going to ‘sell’ me!” This is important: People buy for Emotional Reasons and they justify their purchases with Logic. Happens in just about all businesses. Remember that the First Impression is always the Lasting Impression. Begin with your best information, your best package, your most successful product or service. And showcase it in its best light, always. The client will always remember it… and you. Charlie Seymour, Jr. presented this information at the Sales Summit for Business Development Resources, where he served as guest lecturer, presenting timely information on Sales, Marketing, and Business Development Success. If you have a favorite marketing method and will share it with all of us, I'll be sure to include your name and contact information here in our Ezine. Share Your Marketing Ideas Here! |

Three weeks ago I mentioned how I tell people that I’m “on a deadline” so that I won’t be asked to waste time that I should be working toward my goals. Two weeks ago I gave you a tip that I got from Dan Kennedy years ago: Only accept SCHEDULED telephone calls from clients. And last week I present something that I’m “famous” for (and the envy of many of my friends stuck in a “job”): my DPS Time – Dreaming, Planning, Scheming. Here’s a great idea for this week: Use SKYPE for your phone service. There are three ways you can use SKYPE: 1. Skype – this is computer to computer chatting using your high speed internet connection, your computer, and a USB headset. They are even selling portable phones that work with your Internet connections that don’t require your computer to be on. And the iPhone has an “app” for using SKYPE anytime you’re near a wireless signal. This is totally free all over the world. College students are famous for calling home to other states, Canada, Mexico, Europe, etc. And when your friends have Skype, conference calling is a breeze – set up a group and call! Totally no cost (just download their software from Skype.com and start now). 2. Skype Out – From where I am in Pennsylvania, USA, I use Skype Out to make all my toll calls. Need to call a webinar halfway around the world? I use Skype Out and it costs me something like $3.00 US a month. This has really paid off for me. I remember my first call to tech support for one of my online services. I didn’t realize they were in Canada and when I received my regular phone bill (even with their toll saver services) it cost me $45. Now I use Skype Out and don’t worry. Skype Out – you are placing calls going OUT, so that's how you can remember which Skype it is. 3. Skype In – All my websites list the same phone number and it’s a Skype In number. It rings on one of my computers and shows me an icon in the “tray” area. I can then get the message when it suits me (and I’m prepared to deal with the question someone has left me). I forget what this costs, but I don’t believe it’s more than $25 for a whole year. For those of us working from home who may have been used to using our company’s phone to make calls anywhere at anytime, Skype makes things easy. Miscellaneous – Skype lets you send files, photos, and is even ready for your webcam. Anything you can send over the Internet can be sent by Skype. And you never worry about getting something lost in email. Just be sure the person at the other end has Skype, and you’re all set. And with the newest version of their software and a USB headset (headset with small microphone), it’s very easy to use. And I highly recommend it. What do you find toughest about working on your own? Can You Really Work At Home In Your PJs?

On my blog, I have a thought or two about this – and you might find it an interesting take on the promise that so many people make about how casual you can be when working at home.

Writing a blog takes a while, but it’s nothing compared to finding other blogs that share the same theme, reading what they have available, and leaving a comment. Why do we WANT to leave a comment? So that other people will find YOU and YOUR BLOG. Every powerful blog attracts traffic. If you can turn some of that traffic around the corner to then go to YOUR site, you’ve just generated traffic. AND, when Google and other search engines find your web link on someone else’s site, they will see that as a powerful in-coming link and give you a higher ranking. And… this takes time. LOTS of time. But I just found a new tool from a developer I like and trust. This tool helps you find other blogs that are in your subject area (using the same keywords) and accept comments. For this strategy, why waste time with blogs that WON’T let you leave good comments? If you want to learn more about this tool, download the F*R*E*E pdf I have for you and find out. I find this tool to be VERY helpful! This might take a few seconds to download: Get The Most From Your Blog Comments – Download PDF From Charlie Seymour Jr Here! |

Here are the winners of this year's Washington Post's Mensa Invitational which once again asked readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter and supply a new definition:
1. Cashtration (n.): The act of buying a house, which renders the subject financially impotent for an indefinite period of time.
2. Ignoranus: A person who is both stupid and an asshole.
3. Intaxication: Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with.
more to come!
