Charlie's Weemee

Here’s a lesson for our marketing (my wife says I see “Marketing Lessons” in everything I do).

It was hot over the weekend. Unexpectedly hot (92 degrees F). And our whole-house air-conditioning didn’t work.

My wife had been on the front porch getting some planter boxes ready and reported to me that she heard a LOUD NOISE coming from the compressor.

(I always have to ask several questions when my wife starts to describe things to me: she has bionic ears and smell, so a LOUD NOISE to her might not be the same to you and me.)

Was it a loud hum? A grinding? What was it? Pam had difficulty describing it, but she knew it was loud enough that she had to turn off the A/C and just left the circulating fan on over the weekend.

Today I looked at it just to be sure I had enough information for when I called the service folks. (I needed the brand name and some description of what was wrong so that I could get the right people to come here to fix it.)

However, when I looked at the compressor, I saw that the shaft of the fan was rusted (a compressor is like a cooling system in a car: hot fluids go through a radiator-like contraption and a huge fan blows it through so that it cools off and returns a better-temp fluid back to do more cooling).

So, the fan shaft was rusted and the fan wouldn’t move when I pushed it with a stick.

So… I was sure the cooling system was off, got out my trusty can of WD 40 and my ratchet set, and took off the top of the compressor. I hooked up the red “nozzle” to the WD 40 and liberally sprayed the fan shaft. The fan turned easily now when I pushed it gently with my hand.

Back into the house, flipped the switch, and the compressor was back in working order. Oh, sure… I may have to call in the experts for a complete servicing, but for now, it’s working again… and quite well.

What’s the lesson?

You really CAN do most of this marketing by yourself. You need a few tools, some practice, and the confidence that YOU are prepared to achieve your goals.

OK… so sometimes you’ll need to call in the experts for some reinforcements, but once you learn what you are doing, you really CAN do most of this.

Keep reading. Keep learning. You can do this! (And contact me when I can help!)

Do People Buy Needs or Wants?

If people bought only what they NEEDED, we’d have no Cadillacs, no country club memberships, no football skyboxes, no second set of anything (like shoes or cars), and… dare I say it… no Starbucks.

If people bought only what they WANTED, we’d potentially have no snow shovels, no repair kits, perhaps no orthopedic shoes, no legal or accounting services, and maybe no super-duper toilet cleaner.

People buy what they WANT; not just what they NEED. Doesn’t knowing that help us decide what we should sell?

It sure does.

So… we need to listen to our customers and clients and hear what they want and need.

And then we must qualify them before meeting face to face. After all, why waste time with a face-to-face meeting (or a teleconference) without qualifying the customer first?

How do you know how to prepare for your meeting if you haven’t found out what is wanted and needed? And WHY would you prepare for a meeting if you don’t know that the prospect can actually pay for your product or services?

So what exactly does it mean to be “qualified?”

My definition? A qualified customer or client is a decision-maker who can control the dollars needed to purchase your goods or services. And he or she must have enough money to make the purchase happen in a timely fashion.

Unless you’ve decided to give away all of your products or services, be sure to pay attention to this marketing rule before proceeding. It will save you countless hours of heartache.

Charlie Seymour, Jr. presented this information at the Sales Summit for Business Development Resources, where he served as guest lecturer, presenting timely information on Sales, Marketing and business Development Success.

If you have a favorite marketing method and will share it with all of us, I'll be sure to include your name and contact information here in our Ezine. Share Your Marketing Ideas Here!

Who else would like a HUGE LIST of HUNGRY BUYERS just waiting to purchase from you?

Here’s another way to get such a list, assuming that you already have your Lead Generation website set up as I’ve recommended to you.

Start leaving comments on other people’s blogs. If their blog is an active one where lots of people visit every week and Google thinks highly of it, every time you leave a comment (and are sure to leave your full web address underneath your name when you sign the comment), that site will begin to send you prospects.

WHY?

1. Some people will read your comment, see your link, and click on it to visit your site. They are already “prequalified” as to having interest because they have read some of your writing (in the comment) and have decided to pursue you. These are valuable people visiting your site.

2. Google will see your link and assuming that you use a good keyword phrase while pointing to your site, Google will see your site as valuable because the link originates on a busy blog site.

How can you find other blogs and how can you use your time wisely when leaving comments (because you only want to leave comments where they will do you some good AND you only want to visit websites that will allow you to leave the comments).

Here’s a tool from a really clever program writer. It’s featured on our site and I’ll list it here again for you so that you can download the F*R*E*E pdf to learn more about what it does for you. I recommend that you look at this right away:

Four weeks ago I mentioned how I tell people that I’m “on a deadline” so that I won’t be asked to waste time that I should be working toward my goals.

Three weeks ago I gave you a tip that I got from Dan Kennedy years ago: Only accept SCHEDULED telephone calls from clients.

Two weeks ago I present something that I’m “famous” for (and the envy of many of my friends stuck in a “job”: my DPS Time – Dreaming, Planning, Scheming.

And last week I told you about SKYPE.

Here’s a great idea for this week: Put your work for the next three weeks on a calendar!

WHAT? Did I really just write that?

Me? The guy who is so glad to have more freedom than when he worked for others in a company?

Me? Mr. I-Want-To-Control-My-Own-Time?

Me? The guy who turns on a dime when there’s a need to do something new or something to help someone?

Yep! C’est Moi!

Deadlines slip WAY too easily when we work for ourselves. “Well, I’ll get THIS done today but put off THAT and get to it tomorrow.” And then you wonder why your major project isn’t finished.

During one of your Dreaming, Planning, Scheming times, figure out what you want to get accomplished and by when.

Then write it down on a tablet. I put the date and day in the left column and the three to four major things I must accomplish on that day. (Like today, I had written that I needed to finish this Ezine issue, write on four blogs, and run BlogCommentDemon. Once I have those major tasks accomplished, I can move on to other things.

(OK… so today I cheated because I fixed the A/C as indicated in my first article – but I know what I must accomplish before closing the computer at the end of the day. So if I want to get to bed before 1 AM, I still have LOTS to finish!).

The only way to know that you’ve met your deadline is to SET your deadline. And that’s what a calendar (properly filled out) will do for you!

Marketing Power – Stand Out To Shine and Think Big

Theater has been in my family for a LONG time. Liz (you know… the singer/actress who has her own CD available at LizSeymour.com) is the FIFTH Generation of our family at the same community theater in Swarthmore, PA USA. We can trace relatives going back to England for several generations before that.

So when I blog about using a bit of theater to let us stand in the spotlight, I kind of know what I’m talking about.

Too many people are shy, standoffish, almost acting like a wallflower when it comes to presenting themselves at meetings or on their websites.

So… stand out, think big, create a character for yourself, and use a bit of theater to help you stand in the spotlight.

And you will get noticed and get more business.

Would you like a top Google ranking? And not only that… but would you like to KEEP your top ranking for many years after you get it?

See, that's the problem with many search engine tactics these days. If you finally did manage to get a top ranking, you'll likely lose that ranking shortly thereafter. To be quite frank, this sucks. This is not what anyone wants to happen to their website and business, especially after putting forth all that work to get the top ranking in the first place.

Now, let me let you in on a little secret, shared by Brad Callen. It's actually not that difficult to get a website to the top of the search engines AND keep it there, with very little, if any "maintenance work" after you claim the #1 position.

The secret is to get lots of high quality, high page rank websites to link to your website. While that in and of itself isn't really a huge secret, what I can tell you is that we've figured out a way to easily, and almost instantly get over 1,700 super high quality, 1 way links to point to our website(s) in less than an hours time. No kidding!

And best of all, it takes very little work. To learn more about this incredibly easy way to get TONS of quality, one way links, visit the link below!

That's how Internet software wunderkind Brad Callen describes this product. I have NOT used this product yet, though keep hearing great things about it. Brad has created many top-line products to help us create thriving businesses on the Internet, and like all his products it's guaranteed (or all of your money back). If this sounds like something you need, if you want lots of links pointing to your site, this is the product for you.

Here’s something amusing, if not “funny.”

Here are the winners of this year's Washington Post's Mensa Invitational which once again asked readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter and supply a new definition:

4. Reintarnation: Coming back to life as a hillbilly.

5. Bozone (n.): The substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. The bozone layer unfortunately, shows little sign of breaking down in the near future.

6. Foreploy: Any misrepresentation about yourself for the purpose of getting laid.

more to come!

Do Miracles Still Happen?

Ask the parents of a newborn.
Ask the person who has cancer in remission.
Ask the father whose rebellious teenager has returned home with respect and a positive attitude.
Ask an entrepreneur who started with scratch and now runs a $200 billion company.
Ask the person who once felt despair but now feels hope.

Anyone who doesn’t believe in miracles is not a realist. David Ben – Gurion
