Spread the Word!
Twenty-one young people joined our church this past Sunday. They were confirmed after weeks of education, communication, thinking, and wondering. And when I say young, I mean 8th grade (that’s young!).
My family says that I filter everything through my “marketing glasses” and I admit that I see parallels in most things that go on.
These young people searched to find their message (and the message that they could agree with that was floating around them from those they were working with).
They had to write a clear statement of faith, using words that others would understand and grasp onto.
They had to get before their peers, their families, and congregation and tell everyone what they believed and what they were thinking.
How many times to we (as marketers for our businesses) fail to find our own clear message? Fail to write our thoughts clearly so others can accept them (or, at the very least, understand them clearly)? Fail to stand up and stand out, telling people what is happening with us to that they can decide if they want to join us (by buying our product or service or sign up for our Ezine… as examples)?
The message is all around us. Let’s be clear with the message we deliver and always ask people to join us (let’s call that the Call To Action – make it clear, make it often).
Charlie

The Six Senses in Proactive Selling
As William “Skip” Miller states in Proactive Selling: Control the Process – Win the Sale, there are six crucial aspects of Proactive Selling. Not the kind where you are an order-taker, waiting for someone to tell you want they want… but of the salesperson who goes out and finds the prospect and then keeps working to make the sale.
What are the top six most crucial aspects of Proactive Selling?
1. The Sense Of Confidence – The air you have about you that’s bred by preparation and previous wins. The best part about confidence is that it’s contagious. You can give it to your prospect. (Don’t confuse confidence with its evil twin – arrogance.)
2. The Sense Of Positive Anticipation- Everyone has read the best book on the subject before the age of five – The Little Engine That Could. I think I can, I think I can. Thinking you can is 50% of the outcome. (So is thinking you can’t.)
3. The Sense Of Determination – The sense of hanging in there no matter what. Determination is having the prospect tell you “no,” and you hear it as, “not yet.”
4. The Sense Of Achievement – Everyone subconsciously strives for their goals. Sensing achievements comes from a replay of the satisfaction you gained from making your last sale. Remember how good it felt?
5. The Sense Of Winning – Everyone wants to win, but only a few actually do. That’s because the will to prepare to win must exceed the will to win.
6. The Sense Of Success – This is the hardest sense to master because you must sense it before you actually achieve it. That calm feeling of money in the bank. An “I can do it” attitude. And a well-lit path in front of you. The sense of positive purpose.

Previous topics include:
- I tell people that I’m “on a deadline” so that I won’t be asked to waste time that I should be working toward my goals.
- I gave you a tip that I got from Dan Kennedy years ago: Only accept SCHEDULED telephone calls from clients.
- I presented something that I’m “famous” for (and the envy of many of my friends stuck in a “job”): my DPS Time – Dreaming, Planning, Scheming.
- I told you about SKYPE.
- I told you to stay away from TV, radio, newspapers, etc until late in your day – keep your engine running well with positive, uplifting, spiritual or meaningful messages instead.
- I suggested that you watch other industries, not just your own.
- I said that you should join a local business group to stay in touch with others.
- You also read about Setting Up A Blog.
Today I want to urge you to use video in your blogs. I won’t tell you how to do it in this short article… that’s for another time.
But videos deliver a message and help build a relationship very quickly. People SEE you and HEAR you and LEARN what you are all about. Your personality shines through and though some folks won’t like you (heck, remember in first grade that one kid in the corner who didn’t like you… life hasn’t changed much from then!) but most will understand you much better after seeing a video.
Here are two short examples of personality through videos:
1. I did a testimonial for Bill Crosby’s Twitter Traffic Machine. Twitter Traffic Machine and Bill’s video that includes me – Watch Bill Crosby here! OR go to my site and see the Tools We Use section and scroll down just a bit to see the video Charlie Seymour Jr’s site with the video testimonial about Bill Crosby – Click Here Now!
2. My daughter, Liz, has a terrific music CD on the market. At the top of her website we used a short introductory video so Liz could say hi. Liz Seymour Welcomes You To Her Site – Watch Liz Seymour here! (And then page through the site a bit and see ALL the videos we use. By the time you’ve seen 2 or 3, you’ll have a really good idea who Liz is and what music she presents!)
Video doesn’t have to be fancy. The video of Liz has about 5 transitions. The one for Twitter Traffic Machine is also very straight forward – no fancy gimmicks are needed in these videos.
Think about where YOU can use video… and then get going!
