Did you ever wonder why Fathers Day is “less of a holiday” than Mothers Day?
I have.
Mothers Day (if the statistics I heard before are still correct) has more phone calls placed than all but ONE other day (Christmas).
Gifts seem to flow to mothers, but far fewer to fathers.
Why is that?
Are many dads not seen as the nurturers? Are they seen as the provider and so people forget to provide for them? Are flowers and candy so easy to deliver or send but people don’t think of doing that to a man?
We gathered with my parents (now in their late 80s) for both Mothers and Fathers Day. The table was much larger for Mothers Day than for Fathers Day – somehow either June is a much busier time for people OR somehow Dad is being forgotten.
The older I get the more I appreciate my own folks and recognize the same feelings my girls have for me. (Come to think of it, I always remind my girls about Mothers Day and Pam’s birthday, just to be sure they remember – maybe Pam isn’t doing the same thing for Fathers Day.)
Let’s be sure to honor our mothers and our fathers… and let them know how much we care.
Charlie

Do You Want Fries With That? What’s the first rule of selling? Asking for the sale, of course. But it seems this rule is a big secret, seeing as how so few salespeople ever actually ask for the sale. In fact, as many as 90% of all salespeople miss this crucial step in the sales process. So what is the real secret about asking for the order? Author Jeffrey J. Fox offers insights in his 2006 book, Secrets of Great Rainmakers: The Keys to Success and Wealth (it’s one of my favorite books). Fox states, “The real secret about asking for the order… [is] that the customer expects and wants the salesperson to ask questions, including asking for the customer’s business. …not asking for the order leaves the qualified customer uneasy, uncertain, dissatisfied. The customer who invests his or her time in a meeting with a salesperson does not want to waste that time. If a salesperson does not ask for some kind of commitment, the customer is thinking, “What was this guy doing here?” “Doesn’t he value me as a customer?” “If the product is so good, how come he didn’t ask me to at least try it?” Good points. Think about how YOU handle sales appointments. The next time you are in front of a customer, pay attention to common buying signals, like questions about price, shipping, or delivery times. These signals, and many others, indicate a customer who is well past the “explanation” about your product or service, and who is ready to spring open his or her wallet. Show your customers you value their interest in your product by giving them what they want most: the opportunity to spend money on your offer. And by doing that, you BOTH benefit! PS: If you want to get a copy of one or more of Jeffrey's books, here are some links to Amazon. You can purchase them here and have them sent directly to you (and for that I will be paid a small commission). Previous topics include: - I tell people that I’m “on a deadline” so that I won’t be asked to waste time that I should be working toward my goals. - I gave you a tip that I got from Dan Kennedy years ago: Only accept SCHEDULED telephone calls from clients. - I presented something that I’m “famous” for (and the envy of many of my friends stuck in a “job”): my DPS Time – Dreaming, Planning, Scheming. - I told you about SKYPE. - I told you to stay away from TV, radio, newspapers, etc until late in your day – keep your engine running well with positive, uplifting, spiritual or meaningful messages instead. - I suggested that you watch other industries, not just your own. - I said that you should join a local business group to stay in touch with others. - You also read about Setting Up A Blog. - And I urged you to use video in a blog. - You were urged to improve your writing online – it’s easy when you learn how! – I told you that people ask me if they should put their videos on YouTube and other video-sharing sites and I said Yes… and No! Today let’s focus on Creating A Marketing Campaign. If something is important enough to you that you create a marketing PIECE, then you should always create a Marketing CAMPAIGN and not just one piece. So many people don’t respond to the first piece they receive. You need to get back to people, remind them that you already sent them something, and restate your sales message. For some of my own products and services, I have 14 steps in my Campaign. Right: I don’t allow a NO for 13 steps and only reluctantly accept it in step 14 (though I tell them they can still contact me, but I did everything I could to get them to respond). And believe me, I do NOT remove these folks from my lists: they did something at some point to ‘raise their hand’ to say they were interested in what I have to offer, so I keep them on my database forever (or nearly so!). Marketing to people is human psychology and math… figure out what people want and then help them to get it… and be sure to ask several times (at a minimum 3 times). What Men Want in a Relationship This is good information for both men AND women. Share it with a loved one as this series continues! What women think men want from them causes women to have resentment and anger toward men, and feel hopeless about ever developing a wonderful, warm, romantic partnership. What men think women want from them causes them much of the same feelings and frustration. The sad part is that it does not have to be this way, if only we would realize that both men and women are human beings first and pretty much want the same thing. But, you don't have to take my word for this. Discover what men said they want from women as contrasted with what women think men want. You'll also find tips for women to give men what they want, attract a great man, and create a wonderful relationship. 3. Men want a manipulation-free relationship. Women think men want little or no communication, and the only way to get needs met is through manipulation. Women think men either need or want to be reminded that the relationship needs to move forward. Women think men don't want or value praise and acknowledgement, and so tend to only verbalize criticism. **A Tip for Women** Did you just hear something from a woman and thought it needed translation?
