Charlie's Weemee

One of the things I do in my business life which helps balance all the marketing I do: I’m a pro photographer.

People. At their happiest times. Weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, Bat Mitzvahs, Family Portraits.

Over the weekend, an old man died. He wasn’t just any old man, he was a grandfather, a father, a husband, a brother. He laughed, he loved, he lives on in memories, only.

But I had the pleasure of photographing him with his grandchildren about 3 years ago on the Swarthmore College (Swarthmore, PA USA) campus. He and his son had worked together for many years in their real estate construction company. He will be sorely missed.

But the son wrote me today that at the church memorial service, the family wanted to remember their dad in his happiest of moments, and so they displayed on an easel the image I created.

For you see, we are creating the heirlooms of tomorrow, today. We knew when we created that image that it was an important one and we knew that Mr. Cumby hadn’t been in the best of health. But there he was: smiling, surrounded by his grandchildren, looking invincible. And he’ll remain looking like that while everyone else around him will age.

And on Saturday evening (into the wee hours of Sunday AM), I photographed a wedding. Previously I had created Bar Mitzvah images for Michael but today it was his sister’s big day as Amy married Eliot at The Waterfall near Wilmington, DE USA.

What a gorgeous day, inside and out. And the ceremony was emotion-filled as 200 guests witnessed this beautiful event.

And the reception, dinner, and LOTS of dancing added to the memories.

And so will my photographs. Both families will get Albums from me. And they’ll remember this day for the rest of their lives.

Amy and Eliot and I had spent several hours last summer creating engagement portraits at one of my favorite parks – Newlin Grist Mill. And when I arrived, there was a photo album of some of their favorite images made into a book so guest could sign near a meaningful image and not in the “normal” guest book that is the same at a wedding and a funeral.

This was special: loaded with beautiful images (many I had never seen before).

But once again photography played an important role.

Please remember that. Our minds lose track SO quickly, and photographs help flood us with great memories.

Remember your camera wherever you go… for personal AND business reasons. You’ll always remember the occasion much better.

Charlie

Selling Is Like Baseball

My favorite baseball player is #28 on the Philadelphia Phillies, Jayson Werth. He is terrific to watch and throws himself into the game whether he’s hitting a home run or stealing FOUR bases as he did one night this season.

And just as Jayson has to be ready all the time he’s on the field, so do I.

“Selling is a contact sport. Successful sellers are constantly contacting new prospects via mail, phone, visits.

“Rainmakers are in constant contact with existing customers. Rainmakers know that face-to-face contact with decision makers is when sales are made.” So says Jeffrey J. Fox’s in his 2006 book, Secrets of Great Rainmakers: The Keys to Success and Wealth.

In our digital age, when email, instant messaging and webinars have taken the place of in-person meetings and social events, the importance of meeting prospects and clients face-to-face cannot be emphasized enough.

Fox makes this salient point: “Like other contact sports, selling is rough and tough. Customers can be brutal. Every other salesperson is fighting to get your customers and win the race to get new customers….Some salespeople think that gladiators (the ultimate contact sport) have an easier job.

“Like great athletes, Rainmakers constantly practice, prepare, and plan meticulously, go to the plate, and swing the bat. And because selling is a contact sport, Rainmakers have fun; they are playing in a big game. They love the wins and forget the losses.”

Fox’s solution to staying in the game? Regular, consistent contact.

Stay in front of prospects and customers. Revisit old customers. Ask for referrals.

Jump in the game and close, close, close!

Today let’s look at keeping your family alive and front + center as you work at home.

Some times our kids feel we haven’t focused enough attention on them. Sometimes that leads to kids acting out, and as much as we might WANT to give a great deal more attention, we also know how important it is for us to stay focused on business to help pay the bills that families incur.

The day I’m writing this, our older daughter (Stacie) is celebrating her birthday up in Boston, MA USA. We miss her greatly but know that for her to live HER life, she wants to be in that great city where both she and I went to college.

Liz, our younger daughter, is planning her wedding, so when I did the photography for a wedding over the weekend, I had my eyes opened in a new light: looking for ideas for HER wedding.

Liz, in particular, when she was much younger wondered why I couldn’t stay to play with her all day. Explain as I might, it didn’t work until she was out on her own and she knew what it was to have responsibilities.

But some days I long for those simpler days.

Sometime parents have problems coping and kids work to get attention in various ways.

One day I came across some interesting information called Honest Parenting, which is the difference between a "program" and a REAL parenting style that builds a RELATIONSHIP and causes LASTING improvement in your child or teen! This Information is for ALL Parents and Caretakers of Children!

If you need a bit more help having “smooth sailing” with your children, perhaps you should look at this information. Daniel Craven, who created this website and the downloadable information, provides much helpful information. I do get paid a small commission if you decide to purchase and I’m sure if this information is right for you, you will be so grateful to have found it.

One of the most important books I’ve ever read was E-Myth Revisited. And listening to the CDs were even MORE powerful for me. I’ve listed both of them here for you because IF you haven’t read it, you should. And listening to the CD might be the easiest way to learn from all of this. Monumental in scope and importance.

What Men Want in a Relationship
by Coach Rinatta Paries

Get the full article here.

This is good information for both men AND women. Share it with a loved one as this series continues!
Rinatta Paries writes that she discovered a stark contrast between what each sex thinks the opposite sex wants from them, and what the opposite sex really does want.
What women think men want from them causes women to have resentment and anger toward men, and feel hopeless about ever developing a wonderful, warm, romantic partnership. What men think women want from them causes them much of the same feelings and frustration.
The sad part is that it does not have to be this way, if only we would realize that both men and women are human beings first and pretty much want the same thing. But, you don't have to take my word for this.
She asked a number of men and women who are actively involved in personal growth and development what they want from a partner in order to build a great relationship. You will find their answers unexpected. Discover what men said they want from women as contrasted with what women think men want. You'll also find tips for women to give men what they want, attract a great man, and create a wonderful relationship.
4. Men want growth, personal responsibility, and ownership.
Men want a partner who can laugh at herself and who has courage and strength. They want a woman who can see her part in relationship dynamics and own it. She has to be emotionally stable. Men want a woman who is developing herself personally, and who takes responsibility for her emotional experience.
Women think men only want to have a good time. Women think men have no interest in developing and growing a relationship or developing and growing themselves. Women think men want women who are super models, and that they never consider whether a
woman is emotionally mature, kind, supportive, or loving.
**A Tip for Women**
Men want women who are emotionally mature. Maturity does not mean lack of emotions. It does mean the ability to handle emotions responsibly. To attract a great man and build a long-term relationship, learn to take responsibility for your emotional experience and expression.
