Ultimate Dads Success Ezine 017
Sundays are a time for fellowship and rest for me – a day set apart from the others.
Usually on a Sunday I go to an early church service, then adult education, and stay for the “regular” service so I can sit with my Mom and Dad. They are in their late 80s and are showing the wear and tear their bodies have undergone over the years.
Pam sings in the choir at the 10:15 service and then we join Mom and Dad (or Gravie and Bapa as their grandchildren call them) for brunch at their retirement community.
After that I nap.
There are days when I get up that I remind myself that I’ll have Sunday to relax and restore. 6:15 AM comes early, especially on days when I’ve been up well past midnight the evening before.
And napping the way the Philadelphia Eagles have played the last few seasons has been easy (but napping when my beloved Phillies are playing is MUCH more difficult!).
And recently, I’ve even kept my computer off the entire day.
Work is something I thoroughly enjoy. Thinking, creating, finding ways to help people. But I KNOW I have to stop to rest.
Because if we don’t take care of ourselves, who will?
Hmmm…. something to think about.
Charlie

Are you “Good Enough” to Succeed?Marketing guru Seth Godin once quipped, “I have no idea if what I am working on is going to succeed. I assume it’s going to reach some people, but I am insecure and neurotic enough to be sure it will fail.” Wow. If Seth Godin is neurotic, what does that make the rest of us? And based on this thinking, why would any of us even try? A friend of mine recently confided that, while sleeping fitfully one night, she was struck by what seemed like an incredibly revolutionary business idea. If this has ever happened to you (and who hasn’t had an AHA! moment at 3:00 AM?), you won’t be surprised that she spent the rest of the night tossing and turning, fleshing out in her head what she believed was a truly remarkable concept. She literally jumped out of bed at daylight and ran to the Internet to begin researching her thoughts and formulating a marketing plan. [I keep small tablets of paper on the headboard of my bed for that very reason. So often I have ideas that I must jot down instantly before they disappear.] To her deep disappointment, it seemed several people were already way ahead of her. Her idea was neither revolutionary nor brilliant. Not only were several websites already dedicated to the topic, but blogs and forums too. To make a long story short, she gave up in disgust, concluding no one would want to hear what she had to say. Making money on the Internet was “too hard.” She simply wasn’t “good enough.” Today, my friend continues working at her corporate job where she performs the same tasks for the same people, day in and day out, at a wage that will never meet her needs. In her mind, she failed. But did she? Granted, if you woke up tomorrow and decided to compete with McDonald’s you might find yourself up against some pretty stiff competition. But where my friend really failed was in not recognizing how great it was that her idea had already been thought up, executed, hashed out, and marketed. Obviously, people were interested in this idea. Best of all, the hard work had been done for her. All she had to do was uncover a small way to differentiate herself in the marketplace, and she was well on her way to inserting her own unique style into an already profitable mix. Author George Johnson in reviewing Hans C. Ohanian’s book, “Einstein's Mistakes: The Human Failings of Genius”, recounts, “…math wasn't Einstein's strong point. Einstein's doctoral dissertation, "A New Determination of the Molecular Size," was "a comedy of errors" based on "zany" physical assumptions”… The miracle… is that Einstein could have been wrong on so many details while coming through, in the end, with some of the greatest insights of the century.” [italics ours] If Seth Godin refers to himself as neurotic and Einstein was considered zany, certainly each of us is more than “good enough” to bring our own concepts to the marketplace, no matter what they are. Think about it! If you have a favorite marketing method and will share it with all of us, I'll be sure to include your name and contact information here in our Ezine. Today I want to chat about one of the problems with working at home: things go wrong around your home and correcting them can distract you. Coming home last night, the airconditioning wasn’t working. We had had problems with the compressor before but with my trusty can of WD-40, I “fixed” it. But after a large lightning and thunder storm (and I had no idea if that had caused any problems), the A/C stopped working. And my computer speakers did too, and had to be reset. So this AM, up drove the Sears man to fix the compressor. It wasn’t a long job (though a bit pricey!) but it was something that had to be taken care of. July and August in the Philadelphia, PA USA area can be very hot and VERY humid, so A/C is important. After he left, another truck pulled up into my driveway. (I can see my drive from my office window.) It was a repairman from our homeowners association telling me that he was asked to paint around my front door and the glass side panels. Sure… less for me to do later. But then he discovered dry rot in two places. Not termites but wood rot. He told me how he’d fix it and left to get some equipment. He returned with his boss who explained ANOTHER way to fix it. Hey, they are the experts and our Association pays for external repairs, so who was I to argue. But by the time all of this was done and I was back to writing on my four blogs and this newsletter, much of the AM had flown by. You must be RUTHLESS with your time. Treat it as you do money and don’t give it away needlessly. In the long run, I’m glad all of this was taken care of today. I was glad to be able to tell Pam about the repairs when she returned from work. And I’ll feel better tomorrow when it’s really hot outside but cool and dry in here. But things around the house can be a huge time suck, so don’t let them be! To learn more about one of MY products, Click Here! What do you find toughest about working on your own? Be Your Own Boss – Now Is The Time
Being a good technician does NOT necessarily make you ready to be a good entrepreneur in that technical field.
A good hairdresser isn’t necessarily ready to run the shop. Nor is a good plumber, electrician, lawyer, photographer. Just read E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber to learn that.
But some people ARE ready to run the whole show, and that’s what I wrote about.
See my material here. Be Your Own Boss – Read Charlie Seymour Jr’s blog post here – Now!

This is SO good, I’m repeating it. This is the most exciting “new way” to market products online that I have seen. My friend, Russell, has devised a way to GIVE AWAY information, allowing him to SELL MORE. HUH? Right – He gives away FREE some information and also gives away FREE (plus the cost of shipping) a CD loaded with information. And it all works really well. He has me VERY excited about this – so much so that I’m changing the way I market to mirror what he’s doing. Want to learn more AND get a free MP3 player so you can learn about this too? |

What Men Want in a Relationship This is good information for both men AND women. Share it with a loved one as this series continues! What women think men want from them causes women to have resentment and anger toward men, and feel hopeless about ever developing a wonderful, warm, romantic partnership. What men think women want from them causes them much of the same feelings and frustration. The sad part is that it does not have to be this way, if only we would realize that both men and women are human beings first and pretty much want the same thing. But, you don't have to take my word for this. She asked a number of men and women who are actively involved in personal growth and development what they want from a partner in order to build a great relationship. You will find their answers unexpected. Discover what men said they want from women as contrasted with what women think men want. You'll also find tips for women to give men what they want, attract a great man, and create a wonderful relationship. 6. Men want women who know how men need to be treated. Many women treat men in ways that diminish their egos, making them feel inadequate. Men would rather have more praise, more acknowledgement of what they do right, more acknowledgment that they are great guys who are loved and appreciated. Women think men do not need them, do not value their opinion, their support, their praise. Women also think men do not care about many things important to women, which is why they criticize. Criticism is a way to verbalize resentment. **A Tip for Women** Most men want acknowledgment and appreciation from women.
